Years later, a bronze plaque was mounted near the quarry entrance. It bore the names of the eight miners and the date they were found. Beneath it were the words: “Hope never rusts.”
Carl visited it often, sometimes alone, just to remember that even buried stories can still be unearthed—and rewritten.
