They moved through long, carpeted hallways lined with framed paintings of sunflowers and oceans. Residents sat in cozy common rooms, some reading, some dozing.
Megan glanced nervously into the rooms they passed, half expecting Beth to leap out. But Louise led them deeper into the building, where the hallways grew quieter, the lighting softer, and time seemed to slow.
