Emily clutched the blankets, her ears tuned to every sound. The steps faded, replaced only by wind rattling the cabin walls. Maybe it was an animal, she thought.
She laughed nervously at herself. “Get a grip, city girl,” she whispered. She closed her eyes, telling herself she was overreacting. Sleep crept back slowly, though her heart still thudded uneasily.
