Scary dreams

Sleep came reluctantly. Emily dreamed of whispers slithering through the darkness, of unseen eyes watching her. She startled awake once, convinced someone stood at the foot of the bed.
The room was empty, but her chest heaved with terror. Shaking, she buried herself beneath the covers. Eventually, exhaustion won, but fear lingered even as dreams tugged her back under.
