The lab was a quiet, sterile space with a wide glass window that overlooked the outdoor enclosure below. From the moment they placed the incubator near the window, Cora became even more agitated.
She paced wildly in her pen, hurling twigs and small stones at the glass above. She barked and slapped the walls, her eyes fixed on the small plastic chamber that now held the baby.
