The first signs of fur appeared about a week later. At first, it was just a light shadow along Ivey’s spine — barely visible — but by the end of the second week, soft gray fuzz had bloomed across her back.
Amber gasped when she saw it through the binoculars. “She’s beautiful,” she whispered to herself, as if saying it too loudly might break the spell.
