All day they prepared. Thomas sharpened crampons, checked ropes, and greased carabiners. Greg inspected the rest. Every buckle, knot, and strap mattered.
There’d be no second chances out there. By dusk, two heavy packs sat by the door. Thomas glanced at Greg. “Tonight,” he said. “No turning back.”
