Kevin froze. The escalators moved like a mouth inviting him in, shadows stretching below. His stomach knotted. He turned, scanning the forest.
“Hello?” he called, voice cracking. Silence. His words echoed into blackness, swallowed whole. The stillness pressed heavy on him. He lingered at the threshold, paralyzed between dread and fascination, every second making it harder to walk away.
