Kneeling, Kevin grabbed a branch and tossed it onto the escalator. It rattled down the steps, clattering into darkness, vanishing.
Nothing unusual happened. The machine simply carried it away, humming steadily. Kevin’s pulse thumped hard. He edged closer, torn between fear and curiosity. “This is insane,” he muttered, staring into the void, knowing it wanted him to follow.
