He almost turned back, but then—movement. At the bottom, something darted across the glow, vanishing again. “No… I saw that,” Kevin whispered.
His phone came out quickly, camera on, recording. He leaned it over the gap, angling down. The escalator groaned as though listening. Pixels flickered on his screen. Then his slick fingers betrayed him. The phone slipped.
