Kevin turned the phone slowly in trembling hands, brushing dust from the glass. Cracks spiderwebbed outward, but the screen still glowed faintly when pressed.
Relief flooded him. “At least you’re still working,” he muttered. The weak light illuminated drifting dust motes and fractured tiles nearby. He rose cautiously, clutching the device like a lifeline, unwilling to lose it again.
