“Willem?” Kevin whispered, voice trembling into the hollow tunnel. The older man took a step back, shoulders hunched, eyes darting nervously.
He retreated deeper into shadow, but Kevin forced calm. Slowly, he dropped onto his hands and knees. “I’m not here to hurt you,” he said. Crawling carefully, Kevin committed—closing the distance to a man who clearly wanted none.
