The sight unsettled him, yet curiosity burned hotter than fear. He leaned close, squinting through the bars at the escalators.
Glancing around, he half-expected someone watching. No one. “I have to figure this out,” he whispered. Later, he’d regret those words. He could have left, spared himself what followed, but the choice was gone. Curiosity had already won.
