Together, they crawled back through the narrow passage, dust clinging to their clothes. Kevin’s shoulders scraped against stone as he moved, but Willem guided him with practiced patience.
They reached the chamber again, where Willem pressed against a concealed panel. With a sharp clank, the lock released. The heavy door groaned open reluctantly, spilling a shaft of freedom into the underground. For the first time since entering, Kevin could breathe easily again.
