To everyone’s surprise, the baby climbed out of the pool and trotted straight to Julia, ignoring David and the keepers. Its little legs waddled quickly, and soon it pressed its wet nose against Julia’s hand, whining softly.
“That’s not normal,” one of the keepers murmured. Baby hippos rarely sought out strangers, especially with their mother nearby. For some strange reason, the baby hippo projected a child-mother-like bond with Julia in this case. And that wasn’t without reason.
