The group reached the damaged section of the fence where the zookeepers had tied it shut. The men quickly worked to untie it, reopening the gap. Julia stayed at the center of it all, gently guiding the calf and its mother closer. “Almost home,” she whispered softly.
The baby squealed once more, circling its mother with joy. Slowly, cautiously, the massive animal stepped forward, passing through the gap. The enclosure finally welcomed them back safely.
