“Everything checks out,” the officer said, almost offhand. “We can’t find any legal reason to hold him.” Adams’s stomach dropped. “What do you mean?” he demanded.
“I saw him with my own eyes. He broke into the hotel after hours. That’s trespassing.” The officer shrugged. “Well, he actually did not, sir. He has every right to do that.”
