Karen crossed the tape without asking and hugged Claire. The one present officer hesitated. But Claire convinced him that she was a welcome friend. “You’re shaking,” Karen said quietly, while giving her friend a tight hug.
Claire nodded, feeling a tear roll down her cheek. “I just wanted to clean,” Claire muttered. “Now there’s news trucks.”
