The seagulls seemed to know it too. They shrieked even louder, circling low over the pile. The family quickly understood that these black shapes were probably eggs, hundreds, maybe thousands of them, all of them out in plain sight.
Instinctively, the family felt the urge to keep the birds away and protect what they had found.
