Taking a slow, deep breath, Ellen remained perfectly still about two feet away from the chimney, trying not to make any sudden movements.
She closed her eyes and listened carefully, hoping to hear signs of activity coming from within the brick structure. Ellen waited in silence, but the air remained completely still. There was no sound at all.
