Moving deeper, they both noticed something odd: the tunnel walls were much smoother than expected, almost polished by tools. Faint marks crisscrossed the surface.
The tunnel sloped downward, disappearing beneath the cliff. It was obvious this was no natural passage, but the work of someone determined to hide something away.
