The old boat continued sailing smoothly forward, completely unaffected by the noise or their actions. Its speed increased again, surprising them.
Looking out the foggy windows, they realized the coastal guard vessel was no longer visible. It had vanished behind them completely, swallowed by the water and the distance in between.
