After Ernest signed, the assistant manager led him to the staff room. Ernest took off his cap, jacket, and nametag, folding everything neatly.
He placed them on the table, staring at them for a long time before turning away. Nobody spoke. He picked up his small bag of personal things and walked out quietly.
